Hey guys. Recently my hedgehog had a badly infected foot, which was treated by antibiotics. The vet told me that his foot would always be disformed because his paw got so large. Nearly three months later, his foot is infected again! Does anyone Know why he is having recurring infections? Thanks :)

What kind of bedding is he on?

Seems to me if he was on fleece it would be cleaner, drier and less apt to be infected. If he is already on fleece, maybe change it more.

If it is infected over and over, perhaps the infection isn't really completely gone. Make sure the antibiotics are used for the full time. I also believe someone had to keep their hedgie on antibiotics for 21 days for infection.

But as Nikki said, ask your vet.

When his first infection occurred, he had hay bedding and now he has aspen shavings. He was on antibiotics for a week and the infection cleared up completely. His foot returned to a healthy colour, although his foot would always be disformed. I'm just so worried if I'm doing something wrong? I'm looking after him well, I just hate to see him suffer. I'm taking him to the vets again on Wednesday. Thank you for your comments guys
