About two weeks after adopting Stella, I noticed she had some pus oozing out from under a quill. A couple days later I took her to the vet and they treated her with revolution for possible mites. That was a couple days ago and now a new spot has formed and is oozing pus. It's coming from under a quill. I have no idea what this is. I know she's acting fine, eating, drinking, wheeling, etc. What the heck is going on?

Well pus usually = infection. So unless your vet had already ruled it out, that's the next logical step to take. But since it seems like youve covered that route as you are wanting more possibilities, what did your vet say about the pus previously, did they treat with antibiotics? Did it get better after the antibiotics? If so, how long after? What meds were used? If there's another spot then it would seem like either the antibiotics weren't given long enough or it was the wrong kind.

Could you describe the exact locations on her body and what they look like? Could always be a staph infection.
Does it look like it could have been and infected ingrown quill?

Either way, as I said the pus just points us in the direction of some sort of infection, and only your vet can tell you which type. Secondary infections due to mite damage(or any skin damage for that matter) is not uncommon.

I just can't believe no one has seen this before..she can't be the only hedgie this has happened to! Lol
Nancy gave an answer, the same answer I would have given, and saw no need to parrot her. Yes I've seen pus come from the base of quills, it was a skin infection. You need to talk to your vet again about it.

Both Nancy and Kalandra are people that have been on this forum for years, sharing their advice and experience with people. They're helpful every day, particularly with health situations, since they both have had a lot of experience with health issues. In my opinion, they're two of the most respected members on our forum. Their replies were just short and to the point, and gave the best advice - go back to the vet. It's very hard for people on the internet to give any definite diagnosis on any illness, and your vet can give you a better answer and help your hedgehog. :)

jilljillgig, please try to be respectful, no need to get snappy. Just because there's no flowery language in their posts doesn't mean they are being rude. Nancy said what we all would say, skin infection, and suggest a vet visit. A lot of times when someone sees a question correctly replied to, they don't bother mentioning the same thing again.

But in case you need to hear it, yes, it sounds like a skin infection and you should talk to your vet about it. :)
