I discovered Snowball likes to play with my necklace that is on my neck, or my hair. She loves to play tug of war with my hair. I also see that she likes to tug my papers around if she is on my coffee table. I even went crafty one night, I had a old cool whip container, cut a doorway in the bowl end, glued the lid to the bottom, so the lid is the bottom part. Snowball likes to crawl in there. I stuff it with scrap fleece. Also tissue boxes stuffed with scrap fleece is a also good to have them explore.

Is it okay to use a hamster ball? I have dogs and I don't want them to get to him.

You'll want a guinea pig ball as hamster balls are too small. Some hedgies love them, some don't.

My hedgehog loves the miniture tennis balls, and of course his wheel. Also tunnels always seem to be a big hit.

Are the paper boxes and such okay if they end up chewing on them?

If they're eating it, definitely not. If they eat enough, it could cause an impaction.

If they're just ripping it apart or don't seem to be ingesting it, I would still be careful about what the box was used for previously & whether it could have anything toxic on or in it - look for glue, dyes/paint, etc.
