I have a new hedgie! I have taken her to Logans, walmart, and other places. I have a fleece blanket inside an oversized tote! I keep her warm with a heated rice sock and the blanket is very warm! I feel like she likes to ride and go with me! Of course I don't know this to be a fact! She doesn't seem stressed by any means ! What do yall thnk?

It is preferred that they have a hard-sided carrier for the car rides. Other than that I don't know what the opinions are on taking them to stores. They are nocturnal, so hopefully you are respecting that and letting her get her proper rest during the day hours.

She seems to sleep while she is in my bag! I can see how a hard sided carrier is preferred but I guess thats not as easy for me to carry in with me! I just want her to get used to going places , and no she doesn't go every day . She may get to go once or twice a week! So I was asking these question because another person had commented on that I wasn't being good to her by taking her to these places! I just want her to get used to me and I have a wonderful dog and this is by socializing him.( I know she is no where near a dog ,but you get what I am saying) I just wanted to talk about this bc I sort of felt terrible and I don't like feeling this way about an animal I am trying to do The best for!

I agree with Nikki, I'd get a hard sided carrier for traveling in the car then you can take the soft sided one out to carry around when you're just walking. As for taking her out like that during the day and going to the stores all I can say is I wouldn't want to risk it with mine I personally feel its stressful and even if it seems like they are sleeping I really don't feel it would be easy to sleep with all the new noises/smells from all the new places...it seems a little too much activity and noise. When there sleep cycles get disrupted it can lessen there immune system which has the potential of causing other problems to set in. If you were wanting the bonding time with her you could always let her snuggle in your lap at home because then everything is more familiar and she probably would get relaxed and have the option to sleep and cuddle with you, just an idea though :) Congrats on your hedgie though and she is an adorable girl :)

In the car, my hedgie is always in the carrier. When travelling outside, he'll be in a shoulder bag snuggled up next to me. The bag also makes it easy to have inside my jacket as well, if it's actually cold out.

Other than that, I don't really see much wrong with it. Though I would suggest not to handle her the evening of the day trips, just to allow her the time to sleep in if she choses to do so. When I wake my boy up during the day(when the weather was nice and we went outside) I wouldn't bother him again at night.

Although, the only thing I'd be worried about with her is that her heath is probably a little on the lower side, since you only recently got her, and she recently gave birth. But, if she is eating, drinking and everything is normal, then I guess it's alright. But just watch her carefully.

Thanks for the replies! I may get a carrier to put her in when we go out! Yes and usually if i take her out she has plenty of time to catch up on her beauty rest! I want her to become acquainted with sounds and odd smells! She never seems stressed out when I take her out, and if I open the bag to look at her she just sticks her nose up and sniffs at me then digs back down in her blanket!

I take Quigley out on trips all the time. More so in the summer because it's nice and warm and we are walking everywhere. I just hold him in my hands and he sniffs around. If it's warm enough we go to the park and sit for a while. Other times we'll go to the pet store to get some treats. The people at the pet store like him and complain when I come without him now.

He seems to enjoy it because he does not ball up or become grumpy unless I make the trip too long. Half an hour is basically his limit. In cold weather I can only take him in his bag under my coat which he will not sit still in and it usually ends up being more of a hassle than it's worth.

To me trips are the same as taking them out for snuggle/play time during the day. Everyone on here has said that a short playtime during the day is fine as long as the hedgehog is fine with it.
