Hello! I currently have my hedgehog, Cassie, in an about 2x3 foot bin cage. She is very intergenic at night and I feel like she needs a bigger cage. I couldn't find a bigger bin though. I don’t feel comfortable making a c&c cage for her because she is a bit of a climber and even with the plastic board around the edges, I still think she might find a way climb out. I don’t want to pay for those expensive guinea pig cages either. My mom said we should make a wooden cage with glass panels? Is that safe? Any suggestions? Here is her current cage

You could build a wood cage, but it's important to make sure the wood is sealed completely. Urine and feces will damage the wood and become super disgusting. It's also important to make sure it has lots of ventilation. Honestly, I would reconsider the C&C cage. It does require a lid, but all cages should have lids, even the bin type that you're currently using. But the major pro is the ability to customize the size and shape of the cage. You could also look at commercially made cages, but they do tend to get pricey.

Whatever cage you choose, so long as it meets all the requirements you'll be fine. Just make sure it's as big as you have room for, has lots of good ventilation, if it's wood is sealed and protected from liquids, is easy to clean, has a big enough door to be able to get all cage furniture in and out for cleaning easily, and is inescapable. You'll also need to keep heating in mind. A larger cage will require at least a larger lamp than what you're using, and may even need 2 of them to keep the temperature high enough.

I would also consider a c& c cage for the cost. Most other large animal cages are extremely expensive and sometimes don't have a lot of ventilation. You can even get like a mesh chicken wire and use that for the walls with plastic or sealed wood frame if you like, lots of ventilation, but not a chance they can escape. Also, you might want to consider gradually switching over to a water bowl, it is safer for hedgehogs and is more in tune to how they naturally drink water.

So I bought a C&C cage as well as a new wheel to go with it since she has recently out grown hers. The problem is, I bought exotic nutrition’s silent runner wheel. It is coming in the mail soon and I only just realized that they aren’t good for hedgehogs. What should I do?

Cassie’s new cage! Working on getting a new wheel and water bowl. My room is normally around 72-75 so I do not have to get another ceramic heat emitter until winter. She is much happier in this cage and last night she was running laps around it for hours!

i love it! Where did you get all the supplies? I’m looking into getting one myself as I am moving in my hedgie needs new cage

Thank you! I got the cage off amazon. The igloo was from chewy. The igloo cover and the wheel are from etsy. Most of the fleece I have is from joann or hobby lobby. The rest of the stuff is at petco!
