I've had Potroast for almost 3 years now and I've never had a single health issue with him, he's been as healthy and happy as can be. But about a week ago, he started making these weird breathing sounds and they have continued until now. I cannot afford to take him to the vet unless I know for certain that it is an emergency due to my current financial situation. He doesn't seem to have a runny nose and nothing about his routine and actions has really changed except he has begun to sleep in weird places in his cage. I did suspect him to have a UTI recently because I noticed little squiggly white thinks in his urine, but it cleared up quickly and I haven't noticed anything. I did recently have a hedgehog die for completely unrelated reasons, so I may just be paranoid, but I don't know why he suddenly began to make those sounds.

In the video, the noise is obviously constant, but its not consistent. Sometimes its like quiet noises, like the video, other times its loud noises. This noise continues when he is sleeping as well. Any idea what it may be?

The thing about hedgehog illness is that it goes from good to worse and completely skips bad. And it does it quickly. You probably need to go to the vet. It could be a URI, or other respiratory issue, or something unrelated.

I know financials can be tough sometimes. You might look into Care Credit. It's like a credit card that you use only for medical stuff. There's often an interest free period if you pay it off in that time frame. You can also see if the vet is willing to work out a payment plan. But I would definitely consider pet insurance. It's super cheap for hedgehogs. I think I paid $80-$90 for it for a year. But it saved me so much in vet bills.
