I decided to bring Tangelo for hist first visit along with Litchi which was due for her anual check up (they do discount when you bring 2).

I didn't ask for Dre Beaulieu, since they always book me up with her, but she was on vacation. So I got the rodden tooth specialist :|

He knew hedgehog, but seemed to be a "by the book guy". When I told him about my food mix he say "oh, catfood, why not. We don't know what to feed them so that might do it". He told me I should keep them at a higher temperature, like 27-28C. I was so surprise, that I fogort to mention that Litchi gets letargic when it's that hot, her best temp is about 23-24C. He also told me that she was fat at 450g (I'll take picture so you can judge, but she has no fat roll and can go in a really tight ball).

Since he was less patient than my regular Dre, he wanted to but them under for a check up (I didn't like that, but I kinda had no choice). But that was a good occasion to check their mouth: Litchi had some fiber (hedgie bag? liner? bath towell she cheewed?) on her teeth and tha Tangelo's teeth are really bad: broken/chipped and really used. He find it hard to believe he's only 2, because the wear indicate an older hedgie. I assume it's because of the condition he was kept before (treated as a roddent maybe).

He also suggested me Litchi's spaying (uterine cancer), which I know isn't a bad thing. But since it wasn't my regular vet, I want to double check with you guys the risk/benefits. He said she's not to old for this (just turned 4) that there are almost no risk. I'd like to think that out (well after they give me the price of the suggery, they don't do it often so they hard to seach).

If I ever chose to spay her, do you think it could ok to let her play with Tangelo or he can be agressive toward her and it would be too risky.

I don't know much about spaying because I have a male and never looked into it but I read once that it is not as simple a procedure as with other animals. I would suggest talking to your regular vet about and maybe other vets in the area if there are more with hedgehog experience.

IMO 4 years old is too old for a preventative spay and at 4, I'm sure she would be fine with it but I wouldn't subject her to surgery unless necessary.
That's what I tought. I think he doesn't know that much, he said "oh they live like what, 10 years" I was like "well some do live to 8, but sadly it's not the majority"

Interesting to hear about the other vets at the clinic here in Montreal.

I will stick with Dre. Beaulieu; I've had excellent care from her...

R.
Yeah, I love her, she's much more patien with them and seems to know them better. But even if I wasn't fond on this guy (I can't remember his name) he seemed to know more that other vet at other clinic. Even if it's at the end of the world for me (not so much now that I'm close to the 15) I'll stick there.
