Picking up our little Hedgehog baby today at 1:00. He's finally weaned! We studied a lot before deciding to add one to our family. I have a ferret also, is it ok to feed him Ferret food after he's older? For now I have decided on a good high quality kitten food. I'm so glad to of found this forum. It's much better than most! I'm so excited!!!

There is a list of good foods under nutrition, by Reaper which tells you what is best and what % of everything is needed, i.e not high in fat etc.

Good luck with getting her, post some pics when she's home and settled :)

Ferrets have a short digestive tract and the nutrition they need differs from what a hedgehog needs. Protein in ferret food is often much too high, also, and too much protein can cause kidney problems for hedgehogs.

Reaper's list is an excellent list. Pick 2-3 foods from there to make a mix and you'll have enough food to feed one hedgie for over a year (put the food not being used in the next week or so in the freezer, then thaw the frozen food out on a paper towel the day before needed).

Basically you're looking for foods that have about 30% protein, 15% or less fat, and few fillers for ingredients. All the foods on the list are suitable.
