a random bump showed up in the past 12 hours on the bottom of my hedgie's jaw. it's about the size of a round pin head, and it doesn't appear to be large enough to be a tumor or inflammation. There are a few significantly longer hairs coming off of the bump, it's her skin colour and doesn't seem to bother her at all. Anybody have any ideas of what it is? could it only be an ingrown hair?

Are you sure it just showed up? A lot of hedgies have little bumps like that under their chins, especially with the long hairs growing out of it. It's kind of like a beauty mark. :)

Any chance you could post a picture of it just to be sure?

My hedgie and all the other hedgies I met have a tiny bump under their chin, the bump is about the size of the head of a pin and does have a longer hair growning out of it. I wouldn't be too concerned about it. :)

I have never noticed it before, so i'm pretty sure it's a new bump, but she's a very squirmy hedgehog, she doesn't really let me take pictures but i will try my best!

Shelbie, like the others have mentioned it sounds exactly like the little mole all hedgies have :)
With my first hedgehog I did not notice it for months, it IS in a pretty hard to see spot. You can see little Pig's from the side and from head on it is as you describe- usually a hair or two coming out of it and should not be red or irritated, just normal skin color.
I'll try to get a picture of my boy's too tomorrow during the day when he's sleepy :)

Ya, i'm pretty sure that is the bump that all hedgies have at the bottom of their jaw. I wouldn't worry about it. :)
