We just got our hedgehog a week or so ago and he is still a baby, about 9-10 weeks old. Right now he sleeps a lot. Whenever we take him out at night, his primary goal is to stick his head in some place dark and snooze. Some nights there is no evidence that he came out at all to eat or run on his wheel. He does always eat when we place him near his food bowl. Are adults this sleepy too? If not, when do they become more active at night?

some hedgehogs will only come out when it is completely dark, no light at all. Try counting his kibble and putting a sheet over his cage at night. Then see in the morning if any of the kibble is gone by counting it.

Some hedgehogs are just cuddlers and that's all they want to do.

Personally i wish vex would just sleep sometimes >.>

Yes, babies do sleep alot but are usually up off and on round the clock getting something to eat where as the adults usually sleep through the day and eat mostly at night when they are up and active.

Mine's a sleeper/cuddler. He has little to no interest in exploring. Right now, mine is 5 months, and he's still rather just snuggle up close to me and sleep, even when I take him out of the cage.

But at night, when all the lights are off, and there is little to no noise, he'll come out of his bed and eat and run on his wheel.

The only thing I've noticed is that he doesn't sleep as deeply when I'm holding him anymore. When he was a baby, his eyes would be completely closed, and no matter how I moved, he'd still be sleeping. Now, when I move, his eyes will open and peek up at me, maybe make huffy faces

Sorry to bring up an old post. Everyone keeps saying that babies sleep a lot more than adults. I was just wondering if anyone had observed a specific range of numbers. Quillbert is 8 weeks as of tomorrow and he sleeps a LOT. He seems to average about 3-4 hours of moving around and wheeling but boy oh boy, if he's not eating, pooping, or wheeling he's snoozing. Even when I take him out for bonding he wants to explore for about 5 minutes and then curls up in his hedgie bag and huffs if I dare to fidget or make any noise. He's also quilling at the moment, which I assume is just as much of a tiring process as it is an irritating one. I know that it's probably nothing out of the ordinary. I just worry about the little guy as he is my first hedgehog and I want to do everything I can for him.

Sleeping 22 hours a day is not uncommon. Some hedgies are more active younger than others.
