I have no idea how my hedgehog milo would get mites but recently today hes been scratching behind his ear. Hes 2 months old so maybe a sign of quilling? He might just have a itch but he did it like 5 or 6 times when I had him out for a hour. Hes my first hedgehog sp I worry over the littlest things and advice would be great.

Try doing the black cloth test to check for mites and dried skin flakes. If none appear the maybe he's just starting to quill :D

What is the black cloth test?
You take a dark piece of paper or cloth, put your hedgie on it, and ruffle it's quills. If little white flakes/dots fall off, inspect them closely and carefully to see if they are moving. If they are then they are mites.

I did the test on Hazel and white flakes came off but they weren't moving and she rarely ever scratches. I'm assuming the white flakes that came of of Hazel was just her dry skin from quilling.

You put them on a black cloth and pet them for 3-5 min. Then take them off and look for white dots moving on the cloth.
