I understand that you have never had problems, but if there is a risk as severe as this, why take it?...especially when there are so many treats out there that are much beter for them
I have yet to see what exactly is wrong with rawhide for dogs (or hedgehogs, for that matter). Boiling something in bleach will sterilize it. Assuming there is no residual bleach on it, this is the safest disinfectant known to man. You wash your laundry in it and then wrap your babies in the swaddling cloiths, don't you? This has been done for centuries.

WHat exactly is the danger in rawhide for dogs?

I was just asking for a clear explanation - without fearmongering...I have no dogs currently(although my family raised huskies for years) and have never given my hedgie rawhide, I just thought that someone asking about giving their hedgie rawhide should get more than a "OH MY GOD - YOU"RE GOING TO KILL HIM AND YOUR LITTLE DOG, TOO!" answer. No need to get nasty!
