Please post good vets you have been to in Quebec. Name the vet clinic as well as the name of the veterinarian you saw as sometimes a vet clinic can have both good and bad vets. Put the city as the subject line.

Thanks

Saint-Hyacinthe (Emergency)

This is the vet faculty and the only place (In the province I think) that treat hedgies 24/7/all year long. I can't tell you the vet I had because it was probably a student (with a professor).

1525, rue des Vétérinaires
Saint-Hyacinthe, Qc, J2S 2M2

(450) 773-8521 poste 1-8111 (from Saint-Hyacinthe)
Montreal area (514) 345-8521 ext. 1-8111
Montreal : (514) 764-8111

I love her, she's knowlegable with hedgies and is very patient with those not really cooperative. Ask for her, I once got another vet that wasn't as good as her.
Yes, she's really good, knows her stuff and very reasonable prices :)

I have also been to Anima Plus in St-Hubert. It was fine but it was just VERYYY expensive.

Actually now that I think back on the visit it wasn't really fine. He didn't even mention that she was overweight to me (I already knew but still) it's important for someone who doesn't know.

Also Dr. Beaulieu seemed to know more of the hedgie-specific things to check for (yellow fat pockets, dry skin, mites...).

Re: Quebec - Laval

My boss just talked about this new hospital in Laval: Centre Vétérinaire Laval http://www.cvlaval.com/. The Dr there (Julie Hébert) was at Bird and Exotic Animal Hospital. I wonder if anyone tried them, I consider switching because I live in Laval and NDG is really far for me. Their exotic opening hours are not convenient tough (closes at 7 PM and no apointment on Saturday)

I brought my baby to Centre Vétérinaire Laval Inc, the vets are very friendly and they speak both English & French (a rarity in Quebec) There wasn't too much of a wait and it had a very friendly & clean atmosphere. I highly recommend it, here's the address and phone number:
Centre Vétérinaire Laval Inc
4530 Highway 440, Laval, QC H7T 2P7
(450) 781-1200
However it isn't very good for emergencies, because the hours aren't too convenient.

For the Ville de Québec area:

Hôpital Vétérinaire Lesage Robin & Tousignant
9794, boul de l'Ormière, Québec, QC G2B 3L1
418-840-0444

Mon-Fri = 8am-8:30pm
Sat = 9am-1pm

When looking for a place that would take hedgehogs I first called a vet's near my place and they refered me to that place. They have two vets that will treat hedgehogs, I met both and they both gave Quinn good care and good moral support for me, for the good news and the bad.

As far as I know the closest place you can get emergency care for an hedgehog outside of their opening hours is in St-Hyacinthe (2:30 drive away). :S But everytime I had to call them, they could see her the same day, and they are open in the evenings.

I would just like to add that we had an appointment there last night with Dr. Mercier and we were really really impressed. She was very knowledgeable and knew how to handle our little prickly friend who was very anxious and not cooperative. She asked me all the right questions and asked before anesthetizing him if I was ok with this. I did not feel preassured at all. She said she would only charge me 15 minutes even if it took longer.
We have a follow up in a month if all goes well if not just to call and she would see him.

Although it cost me a pretty penny, I am very satisfied. FYI 13$ for opening a client file, 73.50$ for complete exam, 30$ anesthetize (should have cost 124$ according to the bill), 24$ revolution and 10$ for antibiotics.
The only thing I don't know is if she speaks english ;)

I have also found another clinic in Gatineau: Hôpital Vétérinaire Maloney, 211 boul Maloney O, Gatineau (near Main Street) 819-643-2868.
They treat exotics but couldn't see us quickly enough.

I would just like to add that I brought my hedgehog there last weekend. Dr. Beaulieu is no longer there. Kiwi had her appointment with Dr. Larouche, he knew his stuff. Reasonable prices.
