The other day my friend and I were hanging out in my room with my hedgehog (Gatsby) on the floor. We accidentally left an empty pringles can out on the floor, and guess where the little guy decided to go.

Once my friend left I wiped the inside of the can off, and cut the ends of the can off to form a larger tube, and I was just wondering if anyone knew if this was safe? It hasn't done anything bad yet, he likes to climb into it and chill, but I just want to check and see what other people thought.

As long as he can't get stuck I think it's fine. If you're worried you can make it a supervised only toy. Gatsby is a baby, right? My only concern would be that he could get stuck in it when he gets bigger. Pringles cans aren't terribly big around. Other than that, I don't see any reason why he could play in a pringles can.

I use Pringles cans covered with scrapbook paper as repurposed tunnels. I think it just depends on the size of your hedgehog as well. If he's a little chunky, it might be unsafe as he could become stuck. Just keep an eye on him before you let him play in it unsupervised.

For the record, I fully support the use of Pringles cans.

But this may be because my husband's paycheck (and, thus, our family's financial situation) relies at least partly on Pringles being popular.

This also means we have a gazillion of the things lying around, so I re-use them for tunnels (and yes, they can be cut lengthwise with regular scissors), storage, etc. Fitzgerald currently has two covered in hedgie themed Duck tape.

And don't forget to recycle them once your hedgie is finished with them for good. All Pringles packaging -- including the plastic lid -- is completely recyclable.

Writergirlmel, depending on when your husband started working there, your welcome. When I was pregnant with my youngest son I ate 2 cans a day. I should have saved the cans, I could build a hedgehog castle with them!
He's only been with the company since last October, but I consider anything before that as company growth that enabled them to pay him enough money to leave the military. So, thanks for giving me my husband back! It's been nice to be out of the count-down cycle (i.e. x days until he comes home, immediately followed by x days until he leaves) for awhile.
