Persistent Quill Loss

Hi, so my hedgehog has been having quill issues ever since she went through quilling. Now she's almost 2 and she's still having problems. She loses a ton of quills all the time and has noticeable quill thinning all over (I wouldn't call them bald spots). And every so often her skin gets super dry and flaky, which could be the change in weather. Anyway, I've tried everything and I don't know what else to do. I've taken her to three different specialists and I've had her treated for mites, bacterial infections, changed to a higher protein diet, added in different types of meat, applied baby oil and coconut oil and nothing helps. I don't think she's in pain, but that's definitely not normal. The vets won't do anything else for her, because they don't know what else to try :/ Idk, can hedgehogs just have skin problems?

A lime sulfer did should only be used when prescribed by a vet as it is used to treat fungal infections. You should never use something like that without a vet prescribing it as it can be toxic if used improperly.

taybae have they ever did a skin scrape an then a culture and sensitivity test on her? The test grows any bacteria that may be on the skin and then is tested to see what antibiotic is best to treat it with.

I've done a skin scraping, but it didn't culture anything. She had a round of antibiotics and she's been treated with Revolution just in case and nothing has helped. Now she's just losing more quills than ever and I don't know what to do for her. None of the vets in my area have any advice.

My wilbur was losing quite a few quills and after testing negative for everything I was advised it was an allergy. I stopped using his shampoo, gave him an oatmeal bath with flaxseed oil in the rinse and replaced all of his fleece with brand new fleece (to get him away from the laundry detergent.) Since then it has stopped completely with only one or two on occasion. I know its a stretch but just a suggestion since it seems there are no other causes the vet has detected yet :) Also I agree with what nikki said about the bacterial / fungal infection check just to be safe
