Hello.

I tried to search "green poop" and been scanning through the posts, but couldn't quite find anything to answer my question.

First of all, how bad a sign is green poop? My Polly's had it for a day, and I have no idea why - no new food, the temeperature is fine and constant, she seems to be eating well and using her wheel. I let my sister handle her, could this be the reason? She seemed fine.

After how many days of green poop should I seek a vet? Also, should I avoid handling her (or letting my sister do it) until it's back to normal, to unstress her?

Thanks, and hope I'm not repeating and old question.

Unless you've fed your hedgehog something green that is discoloring her feces, the green comes from the bile being dumped into his GI system and the system moving too quickly. This can be caused from a change in food (even a different bag of the same brand), a change in environment, a change in water, an outside stressor (such as getting a new dog or cat or the existing dog/cat/bird being louder than normal). Something as simple as your sister holding her shouldn't do it, unless your sister was rough or it was for an extended period of time or if she were kept awake too long during a normal sleep period.

Make sure her food and water are fresh, change nothing else at this time (keep her routine normal) and if it doesn't clear up in another 24 hours, then think about making a vet appt. I usually give the greenies 48 hours to clear up and that's it.
