I've been trying to find something that I can lay down in the bottom of Lily's cage so that her feet don't get stuck in the spaces where the zipties are. (Also so pee and poop don't fall down there, lol) I know that you can use coroplast, I was just wondering if there were other materials that are safe to use, that would hard and easy to clean. I also need to make sure I can get a piece of it that would be approximately 3.5 x 2 feet. I could cut it myself at home (my dad's got a power saw and other tools we could use), but I just want to make sure it'd fit the cage tightly, so her paws don't get stuck in between the bottom and the wall.

Well, I searched for sign stores near my house on google maps, and just about the only one that came up was a Sign-a-Rama. But when I was out today, I looked through all of the signs on the street and didn't see it. It may just be down a side road or something, though, I'll have to check this weekend if I can't find something else.
I did call two other home improvement stores nearby and they both just said they only have plexiglass, which would cost quite a bit for a piece that wouldn't even be big enough for the cage.

But besides all of that, I was just wondering if there were other materials acceptable to use.

My thoughts were this...

1.) plywood would be a no no due to bacteria problems with wood.

2.) metal would be a no no due to heat/cold issues i would think...plus not very cost effective.

3.) as you stated plexiglass would be way way to expensive.

Have you tried calling the chamber of commerce? I have found busineses this way when google and the phone book didnt help.

I would start by calling a few stores, cheaper and faster than visiting stores.

Call a couple of craft stores, ask them if they have plastic sign board. I've found some look at you with a blank stare when you ask for coroplast, but they know what plastic sign board is.

You might even try home depot, lowes or menards. Also look in your local yellow pages under the section for signs. Call a Kinkos/FedEx store. Some of these make signs and may have product to sell you.

I know this doesn't really answer the question of other items to use... but I thought I would post it just in case it opens a new place to look.

Yes, I haven't tried Home Depot yet, so I'll try calling them today when I get home from classes. I know I've tried Lowe's, but I can't remember if I've tried Menard's yet. Thanks for the suggestions.

I just bought some coroplast from home depot last week. (thought they had no idea what coroplast was) it was located in the building materials aisle. you might have to walk up and down the aisles yourself to find it. home depot employees tend to only know about watering hoses and screwdrivers (sorry, mini rant cause i spent half my day in there usually). It was $20 CAD for a HUGE piece. Mind you this was in Canada and I've never been to a home depot in the states.

Maybe posterboard would work? Like the kind for school presentations, that is foam-ish in the middle. You get get it in fairly large pieces, and cut it with an exacto knife.

Well, my dad managed to find a store near us that sold coroplast, it wasn't a big one, so I didn't now about it. But anyway, we got coroplast now, so Lily's cage is all done! Thanks for the ideas, guys!
