Lately I have noticed that Spiff has a little pink spot on his black nose. I heard that this was caused by rubbing a nose across a wall or wheel. Thing is, Spiff didn't have it when we bought him, and he never uses his wheel. He doesn't rub it against his walls because he has a huge cage, and he only sleeps at night.

Also, I'm a little worried about his sleeping patterns. During the day, he sleeps (normal). During playtime, he sleeps (still kinda normal). At night, he sleeps. (Rather strange.) Aren't hedgehogs supposed to be nocturnal? And is it healty for him to get this much sleep?

How dark is his cage at night? I found that when I'm at my apartment, the street lights still make the room too bright (I'm in the 11th floor). So I've found that when I cover the cage so that it's almost pitch dark, he comes outside a lot more.

The nose could just have a little pinto spot on it. A pic may help confirm that.

If Spiff is a baby, he'll sleep a LOT. Some are more active than others, but usually babies only get up to eat/drink/run a little bit, etc.

We live out in the country, so the closest light is a quarter mile away. It's pitch black until about 6:30 in the morning.

Oh, yeah I forgot they sleep when they are little! He's 12 weeks, so I guess that qualifies as baby. Thanks guys!
