I'm going away for the weekend, and am bringing my little guy with me. I was wondering if he would be alright without his wheel for two nights. Chances are we will be bringing it, but i thought it would be worth asking for future reference :)

Sometimes people have to take the wheel out because of injuries or for other reasons for a day or a few days, I don't think it would do any harm but he mite be going crazy with all the extra energy when harvey doesn't have his wheel he tries to climb up the sides of his cage which can be dangerous if a fall happens (i'm no expert on hedgies though)

I second taking the wheel. I brought Inky with me on a trip without his, and he kept everyone in the room up ALL NIGHT scratching like crazy at the sides of his kennel. I could swear he was laughing the whole time.

hahah oh my!

Do you use a cat carrier by itself when you go on short trips? i was considering thing (or using his originally tub) but idk that his wheel would fit. He has a FS. Maybe if i took it out during the day, and replaced it after his evening footbath?

Nope, I use a cat carrier for travel in the car. Once we're set up wherever we're going, he has a Sport Pet pop-up dog kennel (viewtopic.php?f=12&t=352). It works wonderfully, but is loud if he decides to sit and just scratch the sides for hours.

I always take wheels with us when we travel with the hedgehogs. They can take up some space in the "luggage" but I always just pack cage liners, wash clothes and wrapped food bowls, etc inside the wheel and around it.

I figure the hedgehog is less likely to try to escape their cage or totally trash it (spilling water, etc) if they have their normal source of entertainment (running for hours on their wheel). Or scratch at the side of their cage.... I know what the sound of the scratching Inky made... I'd rather have clinking of glass water and food bowls :p
