Hey everyone! I'm Lindsay and we have had our baby Freddie Tres for about a month now! I have so many questions about him and want to make sure that we are doing everything correctly. He still puffs up and hisses when I take him out of his cage. I have researched and noticed a lot of sites that talk about putting a shirt or small fleece blanket in his cage that smells like you to get used to your scent. Is that true? Also, I gave him his first bath tonight but I'm not sure if I did it correctly. I filled the bath with 2-3 inches of water and the temp. was the same as it would be for a baby. I used Aveeno oatmeal soap and lathered it in my hands and placed it on his back and used a soft toothbrush to wash his quills and feet and then tried to rub soap on his belly but he was very squirmy! I washed the soap off his back and then got him out. Does that sound right?

I'm so sorry this is so long. I've got first Mom jitters

Putting something that smells like you in the cage is a good tip and is very useful for getting used to your smell. You did give the bath correctly. If you're still a little confused, there are a ton of videos demonstrating how on YouTube. I usually don't worry to much about scrubbing his belly because he'll usually get it clean just by walking through the water. Also, don't worry that he is still huffing. My Stella is such a sweetheart and is really nice but she still huffed at me for a while. Patience is key and the reward is well worth the wait.
