Hi, I just got a hedgehog last night and he seems to be doing really well. I was just wondering how long I have to wait until I can pick him up? And do I just pick him up even if he hisses and puffs? Do I pick him up even if his spikes are up?

Yes, pick him up even if he hisses or huffs at you.
If you put him away everytime he hisses or is cranky, he will quickly learn if he's cranky you will put him back in his house.

Yeah I already put one of my t-shirts in his igloo and he really likes to snuggle in it. I picked him up last night, and he didn't really walk around or anything. He just kept hissing. But then I took him out this morning and he stopped hissing and puffing and explored every where. Except when someone made a big noise like my cats jumping on things he would put spikes up on his head. Also I dont know if this is normal but if he is scared of me he puts spikes on his head and he keeps moving his head towards me trying to stab me with his spikes, even though it doesn't hurt. Tonight I will bring him out again so he gets really used to me, and then he will be able to come out a lot more often.

Lucky! I'm still waiting on mine, or should I say... waiting on the perfect time. I could go to a pet store and get one at any time, but I plan to wait and pick one up from a breeder. I have seen far too much sickness and death at our local pet stores. Plus, I want to have my hedgehog socialized... not tormented by dirty hands!
