I just thought I'd drop this here as a recommendation for anyone who wants an alternative to an iglo or similar house. I got this for my hedgehog as a toy but it became obvious from day one that she wasn't gonna let me remove it from her cage, she completely ignored her house and slept in the turtle.
Now I can't get her out in the evening without tempting her with food...! I've got a new iglo on the way to see if she wants to change things up a bit (the turtle is so big!), but I'm guessing the soft turtle is the way it's gonna be...

Very cute photo. How big is that opening, and how big is the hedgehog?

This has always been a concern for me with these types of toys/hidey places... getting the hedgehog out if they don't want to come out. I can just picture a conversation between me and one of my hedgehogs.

Me: Time for snuggle time.
HH: No, I like it in here (quills raise up)
Me: But you like snuggle time.
HH: Go away its snuggly in here
Me: I have mealworms.
HH: Toss them inside, I'll eat in here.
Me: Pleeeease?
HH: Huff.

Kalandra, that's a mistake I made day 1 of having my hedgehog. I put him in a hoodie pocket that was just the perfect size so I couldn't grab him if he balled up. When I finally got him out, I put him on the kitchen counter and stuck my head in the fridge. I turned around just in time to catch a sharp ball of quills that walked right off the kitchen counter.

Both of those lessons are ones not easily forgotten

The opening is about 10 centimetres, and Hazel is fairly large at 480 grams... I've realised that if I turn the lights out and wave some chicken in front of the opening, she'll come out long enough for me to pick her up and have some bonding time. Never underestimate the power of treats!
Also I saw someone had split the shell and the body of the turtle so they could open it which is a good idea!

Ah yes, that is a nice tight little opening then. No wonder she loves it. Got any links to the modified turtle? I'd love to see how they did it. I've considered getting something like this before, but its the whole being defeated by a 500 gram animal that keeps me from these things ;).

I can't find it again, I'm sure it was attached to a review on Amazon but apparently not... I'm considering modifying my turtle so the shell can open like a lid - I took it out of her cage last night and put a new iglo in with fleece strips but she was very visibly walking about looking for her cuddle turtle.... I'll take some pictures when I do.
