Mite Treatment

So, Sam and Fred have mites from what I'm guessing is a crappy bag of aspen shavings. I seem to read everywhere to use Revolution in specific dose per weight. I'm calling the vet in the morning to find out how to get it. I'm curious if Advantage is the same thing, since I have some of that leftover from a problem with one of the cats a few years ago. Any ideas?

If the Vet says Ivermectin I'm hanging up the phone.

I have never heard of Advantage being used, Revolution is a prescription Rx that usually you must obtain through a Veterinarian.

You can order them without a prescription through PetShed if your in the US the shipping will take a bit over a week.

I believe the Pink Kitten/Puppy or Blue Cat Revolution are the two popularly used for hedgies however I am not certain on the blue I have only used the Kitten.

I had reading up some on this awhile back and from what I've been able to conclude looking at the chemistry of them is that Revolution is designed to specifically kill mites by messing with the mites systems but with Advantage they don't have anything in there that would specifically target mites. What makes Revolution unique is that they have the mite treatment, even though cats don't get the same mites as hedgehogs I'm guess that the mites are biologically similar to make the treatment work.

After speaking to the vet yesterday they asked me to bring Fred and Sam in to be treated as opposed to me doing it myself. I had no problem with this and it was actually a pretty funny couple of hours. First of all, couldn't really figure out separate accommodations for the 10 minute drive over to the vet so I had both of the little guys together with a cardboard divider in efforts to keep them from fighting.

Well, it wasn't long before the cardboard was torn down. I spent most of the drive with one hand in the hog carrier breaking up a war. Thankfully no injuries to report on part of the hogs. Can't say the same for my index finger though. Fred took another chomp at the vet which led to a swear word from me and a lot of laughter on part of the vet staff. Everyone wanted to check out Sam and Fred, as they haven't seen hedgehogs in over 5 years.

Stopped at fabricville tonight. Switching to liners.
