Hello! I am not from the US, but I would advise you to avoid buying hogs from pet stores. At least, in Europe, although they sell hedgehogs for cheap, it also signifies the quality of service those stores provide. Meaning: inbred animals prone to genetic diseases, antisocial, poorly kept in a small enclosure, not to speak about what kind of bad advice they'd would give you about keeping hedgehogs. Think about the vet bills too and if there's an exo vet in your area. Are your parents willing to pay for its care and are you able to take it to a vet who specializes in hedgehogs if it gets sick?
To put it short, don't get a hedgehog on a whim just to regret it later and it's worth traveling longer for a good breeder. In Germany, hedgehogs even travel through rideshare. Do you have such websites in the US, where private people offer rides to other people without a car? Your hedgehog can travel longer distances with them if the breeder can find a reliable one.
