If you do a search(upper right corner) for "litter training" you get....
http://www.hedgehogcentral.com/forums/search.php?st=0&sk=t&sd=d&keywords=litter+training

Go through the pages, there are LOTS of really helpful information in there, and I'm pretty sure all the questions will be answered.

I can even quote myself!

But in a nutshell, don't use clay litter, or any litter with tiny hard pieces, as it can get stuck in private parts.

I use yesterdays news. Many just use paper towels. Do not use "real" newspaper or anything with newsprint in actual paper form. Some use carefresh, though be careful using products like carefresh, as they tend to be drying, and can cause dry irritated skin on some hedgies.
More nutshell.....
spot - let your hedgie chose for you
size - something that your hedgie can fit in and walk into easily
