Calling all hedgehog parents who have had a hedgehog who underwent surgery!!! Harper is a 3 year old healthy hedgehog. It was recently discovered that she has a tumor under her left armpit. I chose not to have the cells sent off as I would not be able to afford any type of cancer treatment. My vet has suggested surgery and it is affordable for me to do this. I'm wondering how surgery went for others in a similar situation. What should I expect when she gets out. Is she told off for this surgery. Honestly any advice would help!

I just answered a somewhat similar question here, so this may help - http://www.hedgehogcentral.com/forums/11-health/179274-hedgehog-after-surgery.html

Make sure you ask your vet for aftercare instructions - find out side effects of pain meds & any other medications, ask for anything to watch out for with the incision & how long it should take to heal, find out whether you need to go back in for stitches removal, and how long to keep the wheel out.

I also had a thread going regarding my hedgie Pancake's health issues last year & discussed her surgery & aftercare & such on that here - http://www.hedgehogcentral.com/forums/11-health/136185-pancake-s-health-updates.html

Good luck, I hope everything goes smoothly! :)
