I posted this under quills but have not had any reply so I am trying it here, I was drying Murloc after his bath and I noticed this odd lump in the area between his fur and quills near his ear. I just saw the vet and he said Mur looks great and healthy.(update to this: after the vet visit Murloc came down with a cause of the mites. I took him to another vet as his scratching was severe and my normal vet was booked out. The vet I took him to claimed to have experience with hedgehogs but the vet struggled to exam Murloc and gave me some information that was not correct. He was treated with revolution but I didn't ask about the bump because I did not trust the vet) I'm not sure what this is thing is, it's kinda of hard but I can't tell because Murloc kept moving, it doesn't seem to bother him. I thought (and hope) it's an ingrown quill!but I feel since he has had this for over a month it might not be :c But does anyone have any idea what it could be?

Murloc is a little over 2 years old, is he too young for cancer or does age not matter? I am trying to get him to his normal vet but he is all booked out for awhile.

I think it's best to get it looked at by a vet. With an ingrown quill, you would likely see some inflammation or redness, especially over the course of a month. Has it changed in shape or size?

It looked as though it was getting smaller but now it seems like it is slightly bigger, I never noticed any inflammation so I don't think it is an ingrown quill but I'm making an appointment with the vet for the closest date possible. I just want to know what it is!

Pitterpatter, wishing the best for your hedgie! Hopefully it is just a skin infection and nothing too serious!

Ok so i wanted to update everyone! I took my hedgie to the vet and he inspected the mysterious bump, he said it was nothing to worry about that it is an enlarged oil gland, and it is benign! (YAY!) But he said that the chances of it going back to a normal size on its ownare slim so that would mean we would have to get it removed. As of now i am letting it be butt maybe in the future i will get it removed. hopefully this can be helpeful to all the other hedige mom's and dad's!

UPDATE! the bump was not actually an oil gland but a pimple of some sort! I barley touched it and some very thick puss came out! I was able to get it all out and put some neosporin on the wound so hopefully it heals and the bump stays gone!
