It’s true. Hedgehogs can carry salmonella through their waste but if you just wash your hands after carrying your hedgehog you should be good. Just don’t put them up to your face.
Can I kiss My Hedgehog??yes it is true along with other illness ( don't know which ones), that's why a lot of articles and people say to always wash your hands before and after picking up your hedgie
i mean i wouldn't recommend it, especially if you know you have sensitive skin or if you are the type of person that can get sick easilyCan I kiss My Hedgehog??
What About Cuddling it, is that bad or unsafe?i mean i wouldn't recommend it, especially if you know you have sensitive skin or if you are the type of person that can get sick easily
My husband and I cuddle our hedgehogs all the time and have never gotten sick in the 5+ years we have had hedgehogs. We always make sure to wear a t-shirt when cuddling and put our clothes in the hamper to wash afterward. We be sure to wash our hands/arms after cuddle time. What About Cuddling it, is that bad or unsafe?
Thank you for your information...My husband and I cuddle our hedgehogs all the time and have never gotten sick in the 5+ years we have had hedgehogs. Thank You SOOO much, i was actually getting sad, because I love my hedgie...Pet hedgehogs live a secluded, sterile, indoors life with pretty much zero contact with the external world. I think the chances of catching a disease from a pet hog are much lower than catching anything from a human during normal everyday interaction. Of course you should wash hands after handling your hedgie, and any clothing if it gets pooped/peed on, but beyond that i think they are no different than cats or dogs - and we wouldn't think of not cuddling with our cats, would we?
I don't have a pet hog, only some wild visitors. One autumn night this young girl walked in reeking to high heavens by woodsmoke and tar (likely been too close to a bonfire) so i gave her a warm (soap-free) bath and checked for ticks & fleas while at it (she had neither).
