I went to my local petco today to buy a thermostat, and it was on sale from 50$ to 12$!!!
I still can't believe it. So if any of y'all need one now is the time to go check out your local Petcos. I'm assuming it's not just the one near me. I hope this helps someone!

If you get a rheostat, they are usually much cheaper, around $20 normally opposed to $50 normally. :)

Less expensive yes, but much more finicky. You'd pretty much have to sit there all the time monitoring it... especially when the temperature fluctuates as the seasons change.

A rheostat is okay to use for someone who is constantly home and able to monitor it. Otherwise, there is too much risk of it being too hot and if nobody is home to turn it down it can have deadly consequences. Nobody is home 24/7 year round so a rheostat is not a wise option.

rheostats are like a dimmer switch..they hold the CHE at a certain power level...if the room heats up...they just keep heating at that power level..same if the room temp drops...so they don't adjust the temp. A thermostat actually adjusts the power level to the CHE to keep a constant tempp regardless of the room temp around it.
