so i just got my hedgehog today. He is a bit huffy and puffy sometimes but once i pick him up he is okay. the only thing that concerns me is that i heard him scuffing around his cage(note it is 2 am) and i decided to pick him up, he just didnt really move. I didnt know if he wanted to snuggle or maybe had to use the bathroom? and then i put him in his cage and he huffed and ran by his igloo. Any advice?

Kimmy,

I think he sounds pretty normal! He was probably wondering what on earth you were doing picking him up in the weeee hours of the morning! LOL Remember that hedgehogs are nocturnal, so they are very active at night. He was probably just confused that a human was trying to play with him at that time of day.

Your little guy has had a big moving day, and it will take him a bit of time to get used to everything. Sounds like you are doing great so far!

Hi kimmie, congrats on your new hedgie. I've had turbo 4 months and he still is as still as anything when I pick him up first, I handle him twice a day and when I first pick him up he doesn't move for 10 mins then he settles and gets more comfortable. Its good because you can take this time to clip his nails. Also every hedgie huffs and puffs as far as I've known. Hehe. They're grumpy little things sometimes and just want to be left alone to run in their cage.
