I was wondering how many, or if they do at all per day/week. Since so many people post odd answers, either yes or no's.
My hedgie has been shedding some quills, but is stable and healthy, no signs of mites.
Is it because of stress? It will be a week of having her here tomorrow.

Individual answer: During quilling (which we did for 6 weeks of straight misery), it was around 15-20 quills a day. When it was qilling AND mites (pure pain for my small friend & horror for me!), it was more like 20-25. After quilling, it's settled into about 3/month. My hedgehog is young (6-9 months) with extremely dense quill-coverage, snowflake with minor pintoing.

I have no idea how this will vary between hedgehogs, with age, with colouration (somehow I feel like albino/heavy pinto/no pinto might vary), or general quill-coverage. I have read something in the archives about someone's hedgehogs eating its own shed quills; no idea if that's true/common or not, but if it is, it'd hide evidence of shed-quills.

I would agree, everytime we had tommy out he'd loose @30...we my kids counted them once..

When our little boy was quilling, it seemed to be around 10-15 quills....now that he's a little older, that has significantly decreased to around 5-ish.
