i got my hedgehog a few months ago from a friend but whenever i put my hand in the cage she'll bite it! she doesn't even lick first.. just sniffs around and chomps on my fingers. I always try to make sure my hands don't smell of food or soap. how can i stop this behaviour? im starting to get scared of handling her.. :(

Mine hasn't bit me but some of the things I do to prevent it ..
I always talk to him first
I don't ever come from the front or back to pick him up but from the side so it doesn't seem as scary
I make sure that he is in a totally relaxed state with his quills relaxed before picking him up
I don't ever reach into his dark hide and grab him but lift it up and let him reconize me before picking him up
I always watch to see where my hands are at

I'm sure you could do all that and may still get bitten but these are some things I've found that have worked for me, or maybe they don't and my guy just don't bite (its hard to tell because I'm still a new owner also)

On a side note I don't know if this is the same for everyones hedgehog but for some reason hand palm up scares mine but if I turn my hand palm down and keep it an inch from the bottom of the cage kinda in a patting motion mine will run to get picked up by it. Palm up and he stays aways so I'm guessing its more intimadating and wondered if I'm the only one lol :)
