I use a heating pad for a reptile set up under only 1/4 of my cage,
pad heating is incredibly insufficient... you'll find that it's either too hot and your hedgie won't stay near it, or the air is too chilly and the hedgie won't leave it. EITHER way it's not good for your hedgie. Stella and I have had a bit of experience with this issue.
It's fine to use a pad, but like anyone else I will recommend a heat lamp ( just a lamp base with a heating bulb- about a 60 watt bulb- you can find the bulb at Petsmart or any general petstore.)
Make sure you have a cage thermometer and you set the lamp far enough away from the base of cage. The red night heating bulb is a personal preference since Stella needs lighting at night but doesn't like light .
Just a thought- but using a pad is alright so long as you have the air temp comfy for your little friend. Try it out. If it works for you GREAT!
