Hello to the Forum! I'm from Kansas City and I'm preparing to get my very first hedgie, doing my research, and otherwise getting ready. I want to do the two plastic tub with connectors for the new arrival, and I started thinking about the lids for the cages. How likely are hedgehogs to be escape artists? Are there special measures I should take to keep the lids on?

Any other advice for a newbie?

Welcome to the forum! I'm sure you'll find it very informational.

I have a hedgehog who can very easily escape from her storage container cage, so I would say it's a good idea to keep a lid on the cage, until you get a feel for the hedgehog.
There are a few ways to make an acceptable cage from a storage container lid, you can cut holes in it, or you can attach a screen material.

Each hedgehog has a different capability or desire to escape. My guy lives in a plastic tub and has never escaped, and I have never seen him try. However, with any new hedgie, it's always best to get to know them and have a lid handy in case your little one is a climber.
