I want to compile a list of the best vet care possible so it can be a reference for when a new owner asks that question: "What should I expect from the first vet visit?" The first two things to go on the list, of course, are that 1) The vet should be willing to examine the hedgie without wearing gloves, and 2) The vet should not want to gas the hedgie for just a routine exam. From there I wanted to get some different experiences from members here, things such as what you look for in a good vet or things you wish your vet had done/known to do.
If you were to give your gold standard for a general exam vet visit, what would you include? Or what advice would you offer to a new owner to look out for or avoid?
Any input and experiences are welcome. :)

I wouldn't necessarily have an issue with a vet that wore thin gloves, but not great big leather things. A small blanket would be better. Unless someone is handling hedgehogs often and is used to quills, it can be difficult to hold a really quilly one. Add the fact that the hedgehog is going to be scared, I'd rather see thin gloves being used or preferably a blanket rather than risk dropping. Of course if the hedgehog is being really quilly, the vet won't be able to do much of an examination without gassing them anyways. I usually take small blankies with me when I take them to the vet just in case whomever chooses not to co-operate.
