Hi all! I haven't made many posts, but a few of you might know me as Bubby's mom.

Things are going great and he seems very healthy. I trim his nails often and give him baths once a week, and even feed him correctly thanks to the wonderful of advice of you guys here at HHC.

Bubby is a male hedgie, and he's somewhere around 5 months. I love him very much, but lately its been extremely hard to hold him for more than 3 minutes as a time, as he immediately starts pooping and peeing A LOT. I counted once. Within 20 minutes, he had pooed 8 times, and peed 3 times.

This makes it very difficult to hold and sit with him, and lately, he's been confined to his cage. I'm sort of at a loss.

Will Bubby grow out of this behavior and learn bowel control? If not, I can certainly make accomadations, but I am curious.

I hear babys poop A LOT
I'm sure he'll grow out of it and learn to "hold it in"
as long as hes eating/drinking normal and his poops look fine (normal color shape etc ...) I wouldn't be too concerned.
Also are you picking him up right after he wakes up? because hedgies will need to go once they awake, for some like mine it will take a while longer 'till they do their morning business, while for other hedgies, they will go potty as soon as they're awake, even if its on you :? .
My hedgie likes to take bonding time as an opportunity to use the bathroom :lol:

Well I don't know very much about young hedgehogs but from what I've read his pooping should slow down as he gets older and grows up. If this is new then he might be sick you should take him to the vet. The other thing is has his food changed recently? or has anything else changed that might make him stressed? I know stress sometimes causes them to poop and pee but 8 times in 20 minutes seems excessive to me. I hope that he is ok and you get this figured out.

babies poo and wee loads!! they usually get better with age but may have accidents - one way of doing it is to wake him and hold him for say 10 mins or however long it is that he needs to poo and wee normally and then put him in his litter tray - hopefully he will do his business then you can go back to cuddles and also when he starts to go to the loo then put him in his litter tray so he gets the idea
