I recently got 2 hedgehogs from two seperate places. When I was looking at them in the store they had them in a tank with a light shining right over the top and the hedgie looked brownish. When I got it home in the cage here she looks black. LOL They are not old enough to post about what color but I thought I would share my surprise. If I hadn't watched them put it in the box I would have claimed they switched it out because it looks like a totally different one?

Out of curiosity....are you planning on breeding? I see you got two hedgies in this post...and emailed about a craigslist hedgie in another post....You do know they all have to be kept seperate...right?

They are all female and the cage I am currently building will be large enough to make it have 3 seperate places for each girl! Right now they two are in the same cage but they are babies and the new cage should be done in a week or so. I already started it!

That's wonderful then good luck with your girls!

One other question...where any of your hedgies in with others before you got them? If so you may want to be prepared in case one or more are pregnant.

Oh swell, yes the one was in a cage with about 4 others (the pet shop). She is very small, a lot smaller then the other one.

The one female I got from the breeder was in a cage with another female. At least the sign she had above the cage said females.

The second was impulse as I didn't know the next time I would get to that part of Colorado again.

I hope no babies, I do not want that at all.

Considering she was with 'unknown' sex hedgies, you may want to be prepared, and count 55 days since you've brought her home to be on the safe side. Might be good to take a look at the breeding forum for other "oops" litters, just so you are prepared.

The best thing to do is hope for the best and prepare for the worst...that she is pregnant. You might want to read up on the sticky topics in the Breeding section here. If she does have babies there are people here that can help you through it. I just thought I better mention it because it seems to be happening alot lately.
