[Loretta's Mum]

Hi, all! So I originally had a bottle for Loretta, but noticed she started biting it so I switched to a bowl. I feel like she drinks more out of the bowl and isn't risking her teeth, which is great, but she dirties it so quickly (usually stepping in it with dirty feet or somehow dipping fleece in and absorbing it all out 'til it's empty).

I was just curious if any one has any other methods they use?
Maybe just a couple smaller bowls so she doesn't step in as easy and has a backup...

The water dishes I use for my hedgehogs have a higher rim than their food dish (they can still reach it just fine) and it's also a bigger bowl in general so they can't accidentally knock it over. It works well. They occasionally but their bedding in it but not often. Although when I got up today one of my hedgies had put her blanket in the water dish...

It's high enough that hedgie has to crane her neck over it a little to drink and too deep to step in. But if you're already using a high bowl like that, then I would think putting a backup water dish in would be fine.

I recently adopted a baby Hedgie from a Lady who is due to have a new baby anytime now and already has a young toddler and a big dog so Casper wasn't getting the attention he needed. Anyways, when I got him he was drinking his water from a bowl but he has a terrible habit of putting his bedding in it, so I switched him to a bottle with a bowl under the spout incase it leaks he can drink the water that the bowl caught and I gotta say he seems to love the bottle much more than the bowl. He doesn't bite the spout or bang his teeth or anything, he kind of sucks the water from the top of the spout he licks it off the ball and spout as it sits there.

Water bottles with the ball are dangerous for hedgehogs as their tongue can get caught between the ball and the spout which usually requires partial amputation of the tongue. If a bottle is used, it should be one without the ball.

I appreciate the information! Does it make a difference if the ball is plastic or not? Looks like I'm taking a trip to the pet store today. I want to grab my Casper some meal worms anyways.
