I've started a dig box and found calcium sand in the pet store's reptile section. I was planning on using this at the bottom of the dig box with aquarium rocks on top. I couldn't find much information about calcium sand. Would this be safe to have in the dig box for her either as is or mixed with something like ground walnut shells?

I know that the calcium sand isn't even recommended for reptiles because if they ingest too much they can actually get a calcium overdose, so I would avoid it. It's also really dusty. I wouldn't want calcium up my nose. I'm guessing a hedgehog doesn't, either. I use the walnut shells, myself. Rinse them off under a tap before you put them in to get rid of the dust, and then lay the wet mess on a towel for a day or two until it's dry.

Thanks! I'll use the shells instead. Is there anything that I should stay away from or would any type of ground walnut shells work as long as I rinse them?
