Hi,

We're a bit concerned about our hedgie's (Eeyore) sneezing...

He never used to sneeze much, but lately we noticed that he sneezes just after waking up in the evening. This has been happening every couple of days, over the past 2 weeks.

We use fleece blankets as liners, and keep him in a fairly dust-free room. Our home is a bit "dry" right now as it's a fairly cold winter this year. He eats and drinks, and runs around, seems healthy and happy.

He sneezes 2 - 3 times in a row, then licks his nose a few times. Then, no more sneezing but a bit more nose licking. There is not much discharge, just a wet nose.

We could take him to the vet, but it's fairly cold outside right now - and there's also the stress of the vet visit.

What would you suggest? Have you come across this kind of thing too - if so what did you do?

Please advise, thanks.

Does he only sneeze after he wakes up? What about when he is out walking around, playing, or laying on you? Keep a close eye on him including counting his kibble to keep track of his food intake, and watch for any discharge.. If this is something to be concerned about he will be sneezing at times other than just waking up and if there is any snot, he will need to see a vet. My Herrison sneezes about 6 times in a row when he first wakes up but never afterward.

Thanks for the feedback!

Would discharge normally be a specific color? His nose is wet for a while after he sneezes, but the wetness is clear - so not sure if it's discharge or not. He's definitely eating and drinking water - and running around like he normally does at night.

We got a vet appointment for Monday morning, but we'd rather not take him if he doesn't need to go... sure he'd vote "no" if he could!

Any more feedback - pls feel free to pass it on. Thanks!

Thanks for all the feedback - we took Eeyore to the vet and everything checked out ok.

He still sneezes a few times on most nights when he wakes up - but it's not increasing in frequencey and no discharge so we're ok. Could just be the time of year, dry air in the Winter time.
