So I switched Zissou's food from high protein cat food to actual hedgehog food. I bought him this http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.j ... Id=2755105. I mixed a bit of the old with the new to get him into it but I don't think hes eating it. He's not pooping as much as he use to and hes become more active. He definably drinking. He's also still running on his wheel.
I'm going to count how much I put in his bowl tonight to see whats up. What if hes not eating? Will he come around to his new food eventually or is it just a lot more filling?

Wow, the reviews for that product are horrible!
Basically filler ingredient type stuff and not enough of what they really need? Why did you switch him off of cat food?

because the pet store I normally get it from only gets it now and then... They were unreliable. Well I guess I should switch again, anything at petsmart that would be worthwhile?

Cat food is definitely worthwhile, so maybe when the store does have the cat food there, you could get a bigger bag or multiple small ones to stock up? Just a thought.
Is there any other pet stores you can purchase from? Maybe you can try and do a Google Maps search for "pet store(s)" in you area?

Ya, there are a few. I'll just take my name down at the store down the hill so when they have my usual cat food they'll give me a ring.
Note to self...always check product reviews.

Yes, that's not really a good food. Only some hedgehog foods are alright for our little ones to eat, and Brown's isn't one of them. What cat food are you feeding? It may be fine to just leave him with that food and maybe mix in one other food with it. There's a list of good cat foods here - viewtopic.php?f=6&t=15 and I know Petsmart has at least a few of them. I would aim for buying one or two of the foods on that list and mixing them in, one at a time.

Most "hedgehog foods" that the stores sell are not recommended. Cat foods are much preferred and a variety of them is a plus. In my mix, I incorporate about 5 different cat foods. Also, high protein content is something I wouldn't suggest as it can cause kidney problems down the line. A good range I recommend the protein content to fall into is mid-20's% to the early-30's% range (at most).

This is a good list.

From off the top of my head, Petsmart(canada) has Blue spa select and Authority in stock at all times.

Blue Spa Select is GREAT to feed, and Authority is MUCH BETTER than the browns, though not as good as the Blue Spa.

I'm glad you are switching off the browns, because... look at the picture on the front... That's a European Hedgehog, not even an APH.

Sounds like I'm getting blue spa. Thanks a lot everyone! I'll pick him up some meal worms as an apology...

Anyone notice that one of the reviews (on the petsmart site) for the Browns Zoo Vital is from someone in PA?
And the review is good... they should be educated on hedgies...

Not only should you check product reviews but you should always read the ingredients on the food. If you know what to look for you can make an informed decision. Do some research about ingredients in pet food to help you pick food in the future.
