I recently made my (soon to be) hedgehog a dig box made from a card board shoe box. I am aware that this can get soiled and will need to be thrown out soon after and a new one will be made. I was just wondering, is it possible for the cardboard box to contain mites? I already have fleece everything for her cage including liners and snuggle sacs for easy clean up and the prevention of mites. So, I just want to insure that these precautions will not be for nothing simply due to this shoe box. Thank you so much for any input.

I'd rather change the dig box to something that can be easily cleaned and washed Cardboard boxes will easily harbor any form of germs and bacteria. Best to be safe and hygienic for our little ones

Get a plastic box for shoes and cut a piece of a side. It's cheap and easy.
