Hello. So I've had Archi for about 7 months now. I've always fed him the mixed cat food bag straight from the breeder, but I never have gone out to get him mealies or bugs etc. Should I? Is it something that is definitely necessary for their diet? Or is it strictly for treat purposes? Thanks!

Because hedgehogs are insectivores, and in the wild insects are the main staple of their diet, I feel feeding bugs is necessary.

If you don't like the idea of feeding live insects, there are many available freeze-dried insects.

Great! Just to give you idea you can try meal worms, wax worms, silk worms and crickets.

I find canned insects spoil really quickly, (and I have five hedgehogs), so if you only have one hedgie, go for freeze-dried, which last much longer.
