I'm looking for some advice about feeding my 5 month old hedgehog Pancake fruits and veggies.

She's very fussy and seems to only like her biscuits and mealies (only live, she won't touch freeze-dried), I buy live mealies every month and give her a few every other day or so and I'm planning on gut loading my next batch to get some veggies in there.

My main question is what veggies have the most beneficial nutrients in them? I know what veggies she should and shouldn't have but I'm wondering if there are any hedgie "super-food" veggies (or fruits for that matter)? I worry her diet is very one dimensional, she does have a mix of 4 different brands in her biscuits but other than that and mealies she will only lap up a tiny amount of pureed fruit that I give her, I think she likes the sweetness the little chub! :p

Is her fussiness doing her any damage? She won't even touch cooked chicken or egg, you'd think I was poisoning her with the way she reacts to veggies

My list of most nutritious fruits & veggies (that are easy to actually get) are kale, sweet potato, blueberries, raspberries, banana...I feel like I'm forgetting something but I can't think right now. Broccoli is good too, carrots aren't bad but are higher in sugar. Same with peas. Basically go for dark & bright colors - those tend to be the foods with more nutrients.

Don't fuss too much if you can't get her to eat them! She won't be lacking anything, especially with a good kibble mix. Try different ways of presenting the veggies, sometimes you can find something that clicks.

I would also try other insects! You can buy canned crickets, grasshoppers, and snails. And there are websites online that sell earthworms, dubia roaches, hornworms, silkworms, and other insects for feeders. I really like Rainbow Mealworms, I've been ordering Bindi's insects from them.

To answer your other question, no, while fruits and veggies are good treats and insects are a bigger part of a balanced diet than most people say, NOT eating them isn't harming her. A four kibble mix with varied proteins in the right fat and protein percentages is perfectly fine if she is just a picky girl.
