im thinking of breeding bessie once she has lost weight any advice?

Yes, don't do it. You will probably kill her. A female should not be bred for a first pregnancy after a year old. At 3 she is the age that most breeders have retired their girls. She is too old.

I notice you mention your sister has a boy hedgehog. I just want to remind you to keep her well away from him. At her age a first pregnancy would probably kill her. Don't even let them have supervised playtime because mating can happen very quickly.

okay i wont breed her. i wanted to breed her because when she passes away (probably soon because shes old ) i will have one of her kids to keep. but if shes not able to i wont.

Lauren....don't ever consider breeding Bessie! You have absolutely no background history on her, nor have you had her long enough to be experienced enough for breeding. Please read the breeder code of ethics and breeder requirements, posted under the BREEDING topic.
I can guarantee with 100% certainty, that if you breed Bessie, you will receive opinions/replies that will upset you. This is the most controversial issue that will most definitely have the HHC members mad at you.

I already said i would not breed her!
There is no guarantee even if she were young that breeding her will give you kids of hers to keep. There are so many problems that can happen and every time a breeder breeds a girl, there is a risk of loosing both mom and babies. Breeding can be very expensive should something go wrong. Nancy is correct. At the age of 3, that is when most breeders are retiring their moms. Also, don't think that Bessie is going die anytime soon. Other than being overweight (which is easily corrected), she is healthy and could live another 3 years.

have a nice dayThree is when illness and cancers can start to happen but it doesn't mean it's going to. I know of an old gal who just passed away and she was 10. That is rare but it does happen. I've yet to have one make it to 6 but have had/have numerous 5 year olds. I find here the most common age we loose them is mid to late 4's.

i feel lucky if she makes it another year i love senior hedgies i dont know why i guess its that they have lived long and know more about life and there wiser about things. and i love to take in unwanted hedgies! i only had bessie for a week but i like her just as much as i would if i had her all her life! i feel so blessed that i got bessie
