Fleece fabric sew into liners that fit your cage size is best.

 

Fleece liners are the best in my opinion or you could use flannel as well. With flannel you'd need multiple layers and it would have to have all raw edges sewed and finished so the hedgie couldn't get at them. Fleece is great cause you can cut and use right away without sewing

 

I personally don't like liners. I like to provide my hedgehogs with bedding that is both absorbent and good for digging. Aspen shavings are inexpensive and the best )and only) shavings you should use for hedgies. Pine and cedar emit toxins and odors that can harm your hedgie. For the same reason you should stay away from scented bedding, period, so the lavender stuff probably isn't a good idea. I would also steer clear of CareFresh bedding because it can be super dusty and some hedgehogs will try to eat it and choke.

I like the fleece liners too - made a bunch of them for very little money. And I do a load of Cholla laundry every week or 2. Reusable. Green. No little pieces to pick out of the hedgie or carpet.
