I also use liners, it's pretty easy to clean, just shake/pick off the poop and any quills and throw it in the wash. And with liners you don't get the shavings all over the floor.

And if you have a litter trained hedgie you don't have to change the liners sometime once or twice a week. Of course sometimes more depending on how messy the hedgie is.

CareFresh is fine but it is very dusty and some hedgies eat it which is dangerous.

I use fleece liners, which are super easy to clean, and are cost effective (they last for a long time, since they are washable).

The breeder who sold me my hedgehog told me that CareFresh is not the best bedding material because when it absorbs water it expands quite a bit. She said that she had heard of it causing abdominal blockages in hedgies who had consumed a piece. I'm not 100% sure if this is true; it seems like it might be an urban legend since she couldn't remember where she had heard it, but I personally would rather be safe than sorry. She suggested aspen shavings which do not expand as much when wet, or fabric liners.
