I wouldn't risk it. I know I certainly wouldn't want to live with the smell from one of those plug ins and don't think a hedgehog with their sensitive noses would like it either. Cleaning the cage and wheel more frequently should solve the smell problem. Also, adults are usually less smelly than babies so the smell will lessen with age. There are small plug in air cleaners that don't put a smell into the air and help remove smells. Some even have special filters for pet odours. :)
