So it’s better to get them used to nail trimmings and baths while they are younger. The first time is always a struggle though. Unless they are already used to it that is. For trimming nails there’s a few different methods, the one I’m most familiar with and use the most often is the bath method. You can google it for more info but since you are might give them a bath you could consider this way. For me, I just gently lift up her foot while she’s in the bath and attempt to trim her nails. You have to be very careful though. One of my first times trimming her nails she moved as I was trimming and I went to low so she began bleeding. If that happens to you, don’t worry, unless you went way to deep it will be fine, it’s just scary in the moment. But they do need their nails trimmed regularly as they will just keep growing! You can’t use sand paper on the wheels or anything that people use for rodents as it will hurt their feet and won’t file the nails. It’s inevitably a part of owning a hedgehog. For baths, I use oatmeal powder, it’s used for treating eczema and will help with dry skin. Just mix it in with the water. Also if you happen to have any lavender essential oil, you could put a few drops in and it might help with stress. If you do and they start drinking the water, drain it and don’t use it, you don’t want them to get sick. Baby soap works best for cleaning your dirty hedgie. Don’t use shampoo though as it strips the skin of oils and will just make their skin drier. I hope this helped and good luck =]
