As I posted before, Sylvie (dob Aug 4 2008) has been loosing A LOT of quills, horribly dry skin & belly fur. The vet took a scraping and had it analyzed. It is not a fungas (we've already ruled out mites). I'm going to pick up some Sunshine factor and see if that helps. We're already doing both mineral oil & flax.

Sylvie doesn't care for baths much but we've learnt that she does like to be brushed with the soft toothbrush when her skin is really dry. I think it helps relieve the itch plus exfoliates some of the dry skin. So I just had her out for a brushing and toe nail clipping. I now have approx 50 quills in front of me that she lost while she was out (of course the brushing does lend itself to finding loose quills). The poor girl. Lots of mealies waiting for her in the food dish.

But 50 quills!! :(

I'll find one or two new ones and have been finding them since I've had her (Oct). She's been loosing quills this whole time. In the Fall I attributed it to quilling. Her bum is starting to get a bit sparse in spots though & wicked dry skin between her shoulders and base of her neck (on the back).

I don't think (though don't know) if it's normal to loose tummy fur during quilling too? Plus the horribly dry skin (I'm talking BIG flakes, like eczema size).
